In light of Social Wellness Month (July), HRCap studies how HR leaders must play a greater role in driving mental health and social wellness.

Based on HRCap’s recent market research with candidate feedback and LinkedIn data, we identified top 5 human-centric and mental health-related majors studied by HR professionals as Psychology (60.5%), Sociology (17.8%), Social Work (11.2%), Education (6.5%), and Public Health (4.1%). Those studying Psychology further specialized in General Psychology, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, and Clinical Psychology.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the American Psychological Association observed increased diagnoses and demand across treatments for anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and trauma- and stress-related disorders. Other diagnoses with large increases included sleep-wake disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and substance-related and addictive disorders.

These data points confirm the urgency to improve human-centric and mental health-focused majors as well as the rising importance of HR leaders to better support the global workforce needs.
